WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Town looking for return to winning formula

Swindon Town Ladies will be looking to bounce back from Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at C&K Basildon when they welcome Lewes to Barrington Park this weekend.

Lewes sit one place below Town in ninth position in Southern Premier League and speaking after his side’s weekend loss, Swindon boss Steve Robertson acknowledged the importance of Sunday’s fixture.

“It’s a big game for us,” he said.

“We are fully aware of what to expect this year.

“Nobody thought just because we won the league last year that we were going to come up into this league and win every game so we know it will be tough, whoever we are playing.

“So even though we don’t know much about Lewes, what we do know is that it won’t be easy.

“We’ve still got our feet on the ground but I’m confident that we’re not far away from putting in performances week in, week out.

“But ultimately we need to start getting result as well as points on the board.”

And with two wins from their nine matches so far this campaign, Robertson is wary of the league position his side find themselves in following the reverse at C&K Basildon.

“The loss drags us back towards the bottom end of the table,” he said.

“If we’d have got something out of the match, it would’ve kept us within touching distance of the middle of the pack.

“But now we are at the bottom of that pack so that makes the Lewes match even more important.”

Kick off is at 2pm at Shrivenham’s Barrington Park on Sunday.
