WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Town back on the road to face Basildon

Swindon Town Ladies are back on the road this weekend as they travel to C&K Basildon looking to build on last weekend’s success at QPR.

Goals from Amy Waltham (3), Samantha Hallsworth (2), Sandy Abi-Elias and Ellie Maynard ensured Town were comprehensive 7-0 winners in London, recording only their second win of the league campaign against their winless hosts.

And after watching his side overcome QPR with flying colours, Town Ladies boss Steve Robertson said he hoped his side could take their form into Sunday’s encounter.

“Hopefully we can take the good mood into the next game,” he said.

“Obviously when you win a game you hope that it kicks you on and you win the next one and the next one.

“But we have to appreciate that C&K Basildon might not be as open and it might not be as free flowing so we still need to work hard and prepare properly.”

This season marks Swindon’s debut in the Women’s Southern Premier League, and Robertson admits that means they are stepping into the unknown somewhat this weekend against a Basildon team sitting two places above Town in sixth.

“We are new to this league and we go to C&K Basildon and it’s not like going to West Ham or Coventry, teams we know a little bit about.

“It’s another new team that we haven’t played against before.

“It’s another challenge for the girls but they are going to be buzzing after the QPR result so hopefully we can go there and get something.

“The challenge this week will be exactly the same which is to keep a clean sheet giving ourselves a chance to get something from the game.”
