WOMEN’S FOOTBALL: Robertson expecting tough test

Swindon Town Ladies boss Steve Robertson is expecting a tough test as his side travel to West Ham Ladies for a match in the WPL Plate First Round.

Swindon are automatically entered into the competition after a 2-1 away defeat to Denham in the first round of the WPL Cup and the draw pits them against fellow Southern Premier opposition.

West Ham sit a place below Swindon in the league table and were thumped 10-0 in the opening round of the WPL Cup by Tottenham Hotspur.

But despite having failed to secure their first win of the season, boss Robertson is not taking the Hammers lightly.

“They’re a team from our league so I don’t think we’ll go there and expect anything less than what we got today,” he said, speaking after Sunday’s league defeat to Charlton.

“It’s a nice long journey for us but I think it’ll be a nice distraction for us coming off the back of a tough defeat.”

And Robertson wants to see a reaction from his players after their last cup game resulted in defeat to lower league opposition.

“We’ve got to go away again in the cup and I think I’ll be looking for a good reaction from the players after the last cup game which we lost to Denham.”

“It’s going to be a tough one.”
