Young Swindon golfer Cillian Roberts has qualified to play at the home golf, St Andrews, after reaching the grand finals of the Wee Wonders Championships.
The eight-year-old, who is a product of the Swindon Premier Golf Academy at Broome Manor Golf Club, will grace the prestigious Scottish course in August.
Roberts clinched his place at the Wee Wonders Championship showpiece by beating 23 other players in his age group regional qualifier to grab one of the two final slots available.
Proud parents Chris and Darlene said: “We are so proud of Cillian. He really loves his golf and to make the final is a dream come true.”
His coach Lee Hayward, PGA Golf Professional at Swindon Premier Golf Academy, who has coached Roberts for three years, said: “I am super proud of Cillian’s great achievement in the Wee Wonders Championship qualifier, he played a cracking round of golf and thoroughly deserves his place with the elite at the grand final in Scotland.
“Cillian is always working hard on his game and is always a pleasure to be around and to coach.
“Cillian has been part of our junior development programme for three years and is now in the SP Golf Academy’s Super Advanced coaching group.
“He is certainly one of our academy’s up and coming future stars and is one to watch.”
Swindon Premier Golf Academy had 14 of its junior players competing in the Wee Wonders Championship qualifier and Hayward added: “We had 14 junior players in the field of 90 players in all different age groups, which was a big achievement for the Academy and shows how well the junior programme is working on producing and developing our young golfing stars.”
