DJC Marlborough’s Scott Jones fluffed his lines when he had the chance to score in his side’s cup semi-final against Morris Street on Saturday.

With a gaping goal to hit just yards out after a fine cross from his teammate, Jones somehow failed to direct his header into the net.

His miss however did not prove costly as Marlborough won the George Thomas/Don Rogers Cup semi-final 6-2.

Marlborough led this cup clash 1-0 at half-time courtesy of Vasile Valentin Rascanescu’s tap in after Morris Street’s goalkeeper Chris Ferris failed to claim a high ball.

Rascanescu added two more goals in the second-half to clinch his hat-trick while Lee Connolly, Adam Bukowski and Anthony Duckett scored Marlborough’s other goals.

James Turpie and Carl Marsh added two goals in quick succession but with just minutes remaining of the match they both proved nothing more than consolation efforts.
