Swindon Supermarine boss Lee Spalding felt his side gave a “good account of themselves” against higher opposition Swindon Town on Friday night.

Playing in their opening friendly of their pre-season campaign, Supermarine took on League Two Town and restricted them to just one goal in the first half.

Marine frustrated Richie Wellens’ men further in the second half with victory only secured when Michael Doughty scored a penalty with 20 minutes remaining.

Victory for Town was rounded off with three minutes remaining, Kaiyne Woolery capitalising on some slack Marine defending to round Martin Horsell to score.

But overall Spalding was impressed with his side’s efforts, saying: “I thought they gave a good account of themselves.

“At times we could have been a little bit better in possession but it was always going to be tough.

“In the second half we created a couple of chances. They (Town) moved the ball very well but overall I am delighted with the performance from the boys, it was a good shift.”

Supermarine return to pre-season action on Tuesday night when they travel to Cirencester Town (kick-off 7.30pm) before hosting Forest Green at the Webb’s Wood on Saturday, July 13th.
