Swindon Town Ladies boss Steve Robertson was left disappointed by his side’s performance against Cardiff.

Two goals either side of half time was comfortably enough for the visitors, and Robertson made it clear that Town must improve if they are to find a way to move up the league table.

“We were hopeful coming into this game especially with the way we played at the weekend,” Robertson said.

“But the performance wasn’t good enough and you can’t get away with it at this level.

“Fair play to Cardiff, I thought they took their chances well and they looked dangerous every time they attacked us.

“Quite frankly, I don’t think we gave our best showing tonight and I’m as disappointed as the players are.

“They (the players) need to have a good, hard look at themselves and I want to see a reaction.

“Credit to Cardiff, they’ve won a few games on the bounce now and you can see how high their confidence is.

“And then you see how we play and see we are just lacking a bit of confidence, so they need to pick themselves up and dust themselves down and I’m confident we can turn it around.”

The result leaves Swindon with just one win from their first six league matches after promotion to the Women’s Premier Southern Division last season.

And Town have an opportunity to right the wrongs of Thursday night as they swiftly return to action on Sunday, as Crystal Palace make the trip to Barrington Park.

“We have Crystal Palace at home on Sunday and it’s a game we are targeting to pick up some points,” Robertson said.

“If the players let tonight effect them, we won’t be getting anything but we are confident in the group.

“They tend to react when we put in a bad performance so hopefully we see that on Sunday.”
