Swindon Softball League is one of the town’s hidden sporting gems – a league that has been running successfully since 2002.
The league’s founder Ian Luckhurst came up with the idea when he moved to Swindon with his work, Nationwide and it has been thriving ever since.
Softball is similar to the American sport of baseball, played with a larger ball on a smaller field making the sport easier to play and learn.
The Swindon Softball League is a recreational, social and enjoyable mixed-gender league suitable for adults of all ages and abilities.
Coach Jeremy Bedford said: “This is one of the few sports where men and women can play equally.
“You can play quite casually, it is a very open environment, it suits all types of people.
“The good thing about this sport is that it doesn’t take very long to become knowledgeable about it.”
Swindon Softball play every Thursday evening throughout the summer at Chiseldon Recreation Ground, Norris Close.
Outdoor training also takes place at the same venue in April and September on Thursday evenings and, depending on demand, throughout the season on Monday evenings as well.
