Swindon St George started well in the grand final as their defence stood firm against a strong Portsmouth Navy Seahawks side.
Indeed it took Portsmouth until the 25-minute mark to get on the scoreboard and only in terms of a penalty.
That score saw St George get on the front foot and they scored their first try of the game when Troy Badenski forced his way over the whitewash.
Connor Tomley then added the extra points to give St George a 6-2 lead.
Seahawks then hit back with a converted try before Mark Sharp scored St George’s second try of the game.
Tomley added the conversion to make it 12-8 at the break.
Portsmouth though took control of the match in the second half, scoring three unanswered tries to make the score 24-12.
Richard White then scored to give St George hope and with Tomley converting, St George trailed by just 10 points.
With one hand already on the cup, Seahawks responded to White’s try with another two tries to give themselves a 36-18 lead.
Alex Pritchard-Smith scored late on with Tomley adding the extras to reduce the score to 36-24.
And St George had several more chances to score but the strong Portsmouth backline held firm.
