Swindon Town Women have appointed Jamie-Lloyd Davies as their new manager and he believes the future is bright at the club.

The new boss took charge of Town’s weekend FA Women’s National League Cup clash against MK Dons and was heartened by the performance despite the 4-0 defeat.

Town’s first-half performance in particular was superb against their higher division opposition and they could have been forgiven for feeling hard done by as they went into the break 1-0 down.

In fact, Town Women could have taken a lead into the break and Davies had nothing but praise for his new side.

“It’s something that I’ve been looking to do for quite a while,” said Davies. “When I saw that the managerial position had come up, I put my name forward and as soon as I got into the interview I knew that this was the place that I wanted to be.

“The committee are so forward thinking. The team are going to transform so quickly. It is an exciting project to be a part of. I’m really looking forward to getting started.

“This (the match against MK Dons) was the first time to see the players in action in the hot seat, didn’t manage to do anything with them before on the training ground so the fact that they came out and played some absolutely beautiful football was really exciting to be a part of and can only see it going one way really.

“To compete against a side from the league above and go toe-to-toe with them was just amazing. All credit to the players.”

Swindon Town Women kick off their FA Women’s National League Division 1 South West campaign on September 1st when they travel to Southampton Women.

Southampton have begun their 2019-20 season with two wins against Brislington and Poole Town respectively.
