New Swindon St George coach Kirk Collins is looking forward to building on the previous success of the club.
Collins replaces previous head coach Ben Whincup, who has stepped into the director of rugby league role, and has already been impressed with what he has seen at the club.
Having coached rugby union for the last six years or so, Collins, who hails from rugby league hotbed Hull, is delighted to be back involved with the sport he loves.
“I never thought I would be involved in coaching rugby union but now I am back with the game that I love,” said Collins.
“I’m fortunate that I have come into an environment where all the players have bought into the club and the community so it has been an easy transition.
“We are nowhere near the finished article but I think this season is about building on the success we have in the past.
“Realistically it is about getting the boys bought in and we are one of the few clubs running two sides.”
While the second team takes on Bath at home on Saturday, Collins’ first team travel to Gloucester All Golds the following weekend to kick off their season.
