Fairford & Lechlade Youth duo Charlie Bailey and Shaun Skinner admitted it was an emotional and fitting finale for their team as they claimed cup victory in their final youth match together.
Bailey felt their success was the result of a season of “hard work” while Skinner, who scored with his head for the first time ever, admitted Aidan Van Der Heiden‘s overhead kick will cost him a lot of money because of a pre-match bet.
Three goals in the final 20 minutes gave Fairford & Lechlade Youth glory in the North Wilts Youth League Under 18 Cup Final against FC Chippenham.
Lawrence Merrington headed Fairford in front on 10 minutes before a fine run and finish from Caine Bradbury brought Chippenham level just before the break.
Both sides had good chances to score in the second half but it was Fairford who always looked more likely to score first.
Having been frustrated by some great saves by the Chippenham goalkeeper, Fairford edged in front on 70 minutes when Aidan Van Der Heiden scored an overhead kick.
With five minutes remaining, captain Shaun Skinner headed home from close range before Charlie Bailey wrapped up victory from the penalty spot with a minute remaining.
