Fairford Town boss Jody Bevan praised his side for “getting the job done” against New College Swindon in the Bluefin Sports Challenge Cup on Saturday.
Bevan’s side cruised to a 7-1 victory after a dominant first-half saw them take a 6-1 lead into the break. Fairford only managed to add one more goal to their tally in the second half which arrived just 90 seconds after the restart.
The win was Fairford’s fourth successive victory of the campaign and Bevan wants more of the same when they travel to Brimscombe & Thrupp on Tuesday night.
“We did the job really in the first half,” said Bevan. “The game was done at half-time.
“Second half I wanted us to come out and not have any of our second half complacency and Bailo (Dan Bailey) scored within 90 seconds of the restart and to be honest it just killed the game really. If you were being picky then yes, I’d say I wanted us to be a bit more dynamic in the second half but the game was done.
“We’ve got a big game Tuesday and we’ve come away with no injuries, got more minutes in the bank, so, yeah, it’s all good.
“We should be going there (Brimscombe) full of confidence for what should be our biggest test yet.”
Fairford Town made a fast start against their Division One West counterparts with a Jon Thomas double putting the hosts 2-0 up after just 11 minutes.
Connor Thompson made it 3-0 after 18 minutes, finishing from long-range on the half-volley, before centre back Joe Thomas added a fourth on 22 minutes.
Two goals in five minutes from Dan Bailey put Fairford 6-0 up and firmly in control before New College responded.
Fairford began the second-half quickly with Dan Bailey scoring his third just 90 seconds after the restart.
New College though rallied and managed to defend resolutely and, along with some great goalkeeping, managed to keep Fairford at bay for the rest of the half.
Fairford return to action on Tuesday night when they travel to Brimscombe & Thrupp.
