Nationwide B v Pinehurst A (Division One)
Score: 51-45
Player of the Match: Georgina Brain (GS, Nationwide), Lucy Yendell (Pinehurst)
A great start to the season for newly-promoted side Nationwide B, who encountered Pinehurst A in their first match in Division One. It was a hotly-contested match with Nationwide’s defence challenging the Pinehurst attack throughout the match. But it was the Nationwide shooters that kept them narrowly ahead by one goal going into the second quarter. The sides were evenly matched all the way through the match but it was Nationwide’s centre court players with precise balls into the shooters and lovely movement in the shooting circle which kept them ahead 25-21 by the end of the first half. Half-time changes saw Nationwide up their attacking play and stretch out their lead to secure the win.

Pinehurst B v Abbeymeads A (Division Three)
Score: 34-38
Player of the Match: Lauren Davis
Pinehurst B team faced Abbeymeads A in their first match of the season in Division Two. This was a very close game between the teams, with a new team combination playing together for the first time. Initially, Pinehurst found it difficult to get the ball into their goal shooter and goal attack as a result of a strong defensive display by Abbeymeads. However, as the game progressed and following a team talk from their coach, Pinehurst’s attacking unit adapted their play and consequently started to move better within the circle to make it easier for circle edge feed by their wing attack and centre to convert to goals. Both Pinehurst’s goal shoot and goal attack were shooting well. It was closely contested between the teams in centre court play, with each team making excellent interceptions as well as the flow of play throughout the court. Pinehurst’s defence worked well making it difficult for Abbeymeads’ shooters by providing great cover over the ball and man on marking. Despite this strong performance, Abbeymeads managed to edge away from Pinehurst with the final score being Abbeymeads A 38 and Pinehurst B 34. Special mention to Lauren Davis who was selected as Player of the Match for Pinehurst by Abbeymeads for her performance in this game.
Pinehurst C V Delta Reds C (Division Five)
Score: 40-21
Player of the Match: Beth Pickett
Pinehurst C faced newcomers to Division Five Delta Reds C in their first game of the season. It was a very strong performance by Pinehurst C against a difficult opponent. Pinehurst C started the game very well and managed to get a good lead over Delta as a result of excellent play down the court. Despite the strong defensive display by Delta Reds, Pinehurst’s goal shoot and goal attack moved well within the circle and successfully converted the majority of opportunities presented to them to goal. At the other end, Pinehurst’s goal defence and goal keeper made it difficult for Delta Reds shooters. Pinehurst’s wing attack, wing defence and centre also had a great game providing a seamless link between the two ends of the court. It was fantastic game between the teams, but Pinehurst C secured victory 40-21. Special mention to Beth Pickett who was selected as Player of the Match for Pinehurst by Delta Reds C.
Fairford B v Jets B (Division Four)
Score: 43-8
Recently demoted Fairford B came out strongly in the first quarter, converting shots and only allowing Jets to score one goal. The second quarter saw both teams up the pressure, with Jets making some nice interceptions and Fairford’s shooters continuing to do well. The young Fairford side played well together, working the ball quickly down the court. Jets, despite having lost a few key players this season, showed moments of promise, particularly in the fourth quarter when most of their goals were scored. Fairford B finished on top, with solid performances from both Jess Skinner (GD) and Issy Gray-Evans (GA).
