Swindon Town Women’s boss Jamie-Lloyd Davies has called on the town to turn out in force to cheer on his side when they take on Poole Town at the County Ground on Sunday.
Swindon Town Women play their next FA Women’s National League home fixture at the home of Swindon Town Football Club, the County Ground.
The Women’s return to the County Ground is their first since the 2016-17 season when they hosted Queens Park Rangers.
Davies welcomed the move and is hoping for a big crowd to spur his side onto a much-needed victory in Division One South West.
“It is fantastic to be able to face Poole Town on the County Ground pitch and this opportunity continues to highlight the strong relationship between the men’s and women’s side of the club,” said Davies. “The support from Swindon Town to the women’s team continues to be fantastic and our staff and players are really grateful for the opportunity given to play on the pitch.
“We would really love to see a big crowd for the game showing support to women’s football so if you haven’t been to one of our games before or you are a regular get down to the County Ground on Sunday and see your local women’s team in action.”
The fixture against Poole Town is a crucial match up for Town’s women with both sides yet to record their first win of the season.
And Swindon will go into the clash in confident mood having beaten Poole twice last season in two tight-nit affairs – winning at home 2-1 and away 2-0.
Swindon Town Football Club CEO Steve Anderson is delighted to host the women’s side, saying: “The women’s game has been growing gradually over a number of years now and we were proud to host our national team earlier this year in their Road to France series.
“The World Cup has really put the Women’s game into the spotlight and we’re delighted to be hosting Swindon Town Women for their game on Sunday at the County Ground as they continue on that wave of interest.”
Kick-off is at 2pm on Sunday with spectators requested to enter the ground via the Legends Lounge.
