Your Sport Swindon caught up with Swindon Town Ladies boss Steve Robertson following his side’s 7-1 win against local rivals Swindon Spitfires.

Swindon Town Ladies were in seventh heaven on Wednesday night as they grabbed the bragging rights against local rivals Swindon Spitfires and climbed to the top of the league in the process.

Swindon Town Ladies started fast in this local derby at Highworth Town Football Club with Beth Westlake scoring the opener just 30 seconds into the match.

Ellie Maynard then doubled Town’s lead soon after when she tapped in at the far post.

Swindon Spitfires though hit back when they were awarded a penalty, Hayley Huckin drilling the spot kick into the top right hand corner.

Town soon regained their two-goal advantage however, the lively Westlake adding her second goal courtesy of a fine strike.

Abby Picton made it 4-1 before Sarah Uzzell added a fifth.

Uzzell then scored her second goal after a fine run by Maynard allowed her a simple tap-in.

And Swindon Town Ladies rounded off a superb night when Meg Vella burst through the Spitfires’ defence before slotting home for their seventh goal.

Swindon Town Ladies now face Maidenhead United in their next Women’s Premier League Division One South West fixture this coming Sunday.

Kick-off for their clash against Maidenhead United is 2pm at Shrivenham Football Club.
