Swindon Shock secure the bragging rights

Swindon Shock won the local bragging rights against local rivals Oxford Stealers at the weekend, cruising to a 65-43 victory.

Having lost twice last season against the Stealers, Swindon were out for revenge in Oxfordshire.

And despite falling behind 9-2 early on, a Swindon Shock side hampered by injuries bounced back to secure a 22-point victory.

Spencer Wells was in particularly fine form, scoring no less than 30 points.

Rafal Ciechacki, back for Shock after a year off, was also in form grabbing key rebounds, study points and playing well in defence.

Youngsters Alistair Tilney and Ollie Swann added speed and aggression to the side as they ran the floor and converted key baskets to help push Shock ahead by 20 points at the break.

Despite suffering an ankle injury to coach and point guard David Colclough and a rib injury to leading scorer Matt North, Swindon controlled the second half as they slowed down the pace to secure a 65-43.

The result leaves Swindon at the top of the table and well in the hunt for promotion just two games into the season.

Next weekend Swindon Shock face a home double header against Southampton on Saturday and Division Three powerhouses Oxford Brookes on Sunday in the National Cup.
