Christie Civetta of Swindon Barbell Club claimed gold in the Western European Women’s Powerlifting Championship in September.

She saw off fellow British competitor Shasha Bowers and Maaike De Vries of the Netherlands to claim top of the podium in the -84kg category.

After lifts of 195.0 in the Squat, 110.0 in the Bench Press and 180.0 in the Deadlift, a total of 485.0 was comfortably enough to see off her competitors.

Charlie Shotton-Gale finished second in the Arnold Classic Sports Festival after her British record bench press, and British Championship titles.

She was also responsible for coaching the World Junior Great Britain team in September where they won team gold, silver and bronze in various weight categories across men and women.

Both she and Civetta have the World Championships to look forward between 13-19 November in Orlando, with Shotton-Gale eyeing a medal which would mean an automatic qualification place to the World Games would be secured.

Meanwhile, Swindon Barbell have started powerlifting classes in New College, Swindon College and Lackham College and are running taster sessions in another four colleges/schools and are looking for more schools to introduce students to powerlifting.

They are running the inaugural Swindon Barbell Novice competition this weekend and have started their first novice powerlifting club sessions which have had huge amounts of interest and attendance.
