Royal Wootton Bassett Town hosts its second annual Veterans ‘Super Sunday’ event this weekend at the Gerard Buxton Sports Ground.
The highlight of the day will be the fixture between Bassett’s Veterans ‘Blue’ side and the RAF FA Veterans (12pm kick off).
This will be the fourth time that the teams have met, with the RAF currently leading the series 2-1.
The RAF side won the inaugural fixture 3-0 before Bassett triumphed 2-0 on ‘Super Sunday’ last year. Their most recent meeting came at St George’s Park in February, with the RAF recording a 6-3 victory.
Prior to that match, Bassett’s Veterans ‘Yellow’ side will take on Stratton Juniors (10am kick off). The teams have met twice competitively in recent months in the Wiltshire FA Flexi League. Bassett won 5-2 in their opening meeting, with Stratton avenging that defeat with a 2-0 victory at the start of April.
The final game of the afternoon then sees Bassett’s Over 50s take on a Wales Veterans Football Association XI (2pm kick off).
Entry is by donation, with money raised going to the RAF Association. The fixture forms part of the RAF FA Veterans’ 2018-19 fundraising efforts, and donations can be made via the following JustGiving link: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/raffaveteransfamily.
