Swindon Storm head coach Steve Bennett talks to Your Sport Swindon following the end of the American Football season on Sunday.

Bennett looks back on what he described as a “rollercoaster” of a season which saw Swindon Storm just miss out on the end of season play-offs.

The curtain came down on Swindon Storm’s National League South West Division Two campaign after a hard-fought clash against Bristol Apache.

With Bristol already qualifying for the end of season play-offs and Swindon Storm just missing out, this game was a dead rubber.

But despite nothing but pride resting on the result, the match was fiercely contested by both sides.

Bristol, who travelled slightly lighter than usual, started the match strongly as their wide receiver sidestepped the Swindon Storm defence to walk into the end zone.

With Bristol’s field goal attempt successful, they held a 10-0 lead at the end of the first quarter.

Visiting Bristol extended their lead to 18-0 at Swindon Supermarine before Swindon Storm could respond.

But Storm’s response was impressive as Joel Prowting scored a 70-yard touchdown to make the score 18-6 at the break.

Swindon Storm then struck first in the third quarter, with Prowting’s handling skills crucial as he just held onto the ball to score again.

With the field goal attempt missed, Storm were right back in the match at 18-12.

Both sides then exchanged points with Prowting again on target for Swindon, as the scoreboard moved to 24-18.

Storm then pulled level and looked set to pull off a fantastic victory until injury to their star man Prowting dashed their chances.

With Prowting out of the match, Bristol took full advantage as they scored instantly to clinch victory, 31-24, late on.
