Wiltshire Roller Derby have won their penultimate game of the 2017 British Championships against Suffolk Roller Derby with a score of 175-168.

Suffolk made a great start, obtaining the first lead jammer status, but LauRenegade quickly made her way through the pack forcing Suffolk to end the first jam having scored just one point.

Wiltshire were hot on Suffolk’s tail but a low block penalty against their jammer led to a 19 point jam for Suffolk, placing them firmly in the lead.

Wiltshire worked to catch up and came back strong, slowly closing the gap.

The blockers worked hard, preventing Suffolk from scoring for eight consecutive jams, while a penalty from Suffolk’s jammer allowed Wiltshire to gain a good lead, with Jezika Stab-it scoring 23 points.

The score at half time sat at 96-66 in Wiltshire’s favour.

Suffolk came back strong in the second half and quickly closed the gap.

Penalties from Wiltshire allowed them to gain momentum and score well, putting them in poll position for the victory.

Wiltshire worked hard to regain control of the game once again and another penalty against Suffolk’s jammer allowed SnakeBite to score 25 points, bringing Wiltshire back into the lead.

With just a 14 point lead Wiltshire entered the final two minutes with their jammer in the penalty box.

Despite Suffolk winning the final jam 15-8, Wiltshire had done enough to secure victory and remain unbeaten in the 2017 British Championships.

After the contest, Jez Hargreaves of Wiltshire Roller Derby said: “This was a tough game for us and we worked hard to win.

“Suffolk were great opponents and we hope to play them again soon.

“We are really pleased with the result and are training hard ready for our next game.”

Wiltshire’s final British Championship game is at The Parks Leisure Centre in Oxford on Sunday 18th June.

They will be facing Lincolnshire Bombers Roller Girls, who have also been undefeated during this Championships season.
