New Swindon St George chairman Ashy Perry believes the club will be playing semi-professional rugby league in just a few years time.

Last season’s West of England Grand Finalists are set to field two competitive teams this season as the club continues to grow from strength to strength.

There is also the possibility of a third “friendly” side running in 2017 and Perry is amazed at how quickly the stature of the club is growing.

“With the talent we have got now and the talent we are recruiting every year I would like to say we’d be playing semi-professional rugby in two or three years time,” said new chairman Perry.

“This massive influx of players definitely opens your eyes up to how big the club has grown already so the potential the next few years really is ours for the taking.”

Their season gets under way in May but despite this Swindon St George have already begun pre-season training.

A host of new sponsors including Swindon College also signals St George’s intent to fulfil the club’s potential.

Speaking at the club’s first signing session of the season – a dinner at Swindon College catered by students – Perry is relishing his new off-the-field role.
