Broome Manor club champion Tom Law won the Barry Sandry Trophy on Saturday after shooting a fantastic round of 63.

It was a special win for 19-year-old Law who said he was “honoured” to win the trophy named after his “mentor” Barry Sandry.

“I’m very honoured to win the Barry Sandry Trophy as Barry (Sandry) was a great mentor to me as a youngster and he watched my development through the Tiny Tigers (which he set up) all the way to now,” Law told Your Sport Swindon.

“Barry is great guy and I certainty wouldn’t be where I am now without his guidence.”

Law’s round of eight under par was just two shots shy of the course record at Broome Manor and six shots better than anyone else on the day.

Broome’s club champion started the round in fine style with birdies at the first and second holes.

Two more birdies arrived at four and six before he dropped a rare shot at nine.

An eagle two at 10 though saw Law home in on the title as he followed that up with another birdie at 12.

After a dropped shot at 13, Law birdied 14, 16 and 17 to claim the title by three shots from Jason Beint, Jack Law and Brendan O’Neill, who all shot nett scores of 66.

Law added: “I’m thrilled that I scored 63 and played solid all the way round.

“The eagle on 10 was what I feel was the catalyst for the 63, once I made the eagle I just wanted to kick on and try and tie, if not better the course record

“But obviously I’m very happy with the score I shot.”
