The Swindon Topcats continued their unbeaten 2015-16 season with a hard fought share of the points in Widnes on Saturday.
The Topcats came flying out of the blocks and netted after just 2:43 through Rebecca Da Cova (assisted by team captain Rebecca Inker). The Wild got back on level terms when former Belgian international Leen De Decker, forced the puck beyond Rachel Moore on 12:46 with an individual effort.
With a foothold on the game, Wild took the lead on 20:54 after Abigail Culshaw found a way beyond Moore (assist going to Catherine Bowen-Fell) to grab her first goal for the home side, but the advantage was short lived with Inker restoring parity a little under three minutes later (23:43) to tie the scores at 2-2.
The pendulum swung back in favour of the Cats on 30:41 when Rebecca Osman netted the visitors’ third of the game (assisted by Sarah-Jane Fletcher and Da Cova) but the Topcats were ultimately denied victory when Culshaw grabbed her second of the game (assisted by Katie Hills) to give a 3-3 score on the final buzzer.
The result keeps the Swindon side on top of the standings, extending their lead over second placed MK Falcons to four points having played two games more. The Wild remain fifth, but closed the gap on fourth placed Slough Phantoms to two points.
