Horseshoe ABC boxer Harrison Pearson won the NABC national final on Saturday.

Pearson, fighting in the Class A, 80kg category, earned a split decision against Leicester rival Alan Smith.

Both boxers contested a really hard-fought opening round but it was Horseshoe’s Pearson who just edged it.

Pearson eased off a little in the second round, allowing Smith to get back into the bout.

However, Pearson got his foot back on the gas in the third round as he boxed well behind his southpaw jab.

He showed great determination as he outboxed his opponent and even knocked out his rival’s mouth guard at one point with a superb punch.

Smith enjoyed some success in the final round but it was Pearson who got the nod from the judges, albeit only by a surprising split decision.

Head coach Brian Roberts said: “It was a surprise to only get a split decision because we thought Harrison dominated the fight but at least we got the right result.

“We are very proud of him and it is a great acheivement. Well done Haz.”
