Earning another three points was all that mattered for Swindon Town Ladies boss Steve Robertson on Sunday after his side survived a scare to beat bottom of the league St Nicholas.
Robertson’s side squandered an early lead just before the break but stepped up a gear in the second half to clinch a 3-1 win and take a huge step towards the Women’s Premier League South West Division One title.
The Town Ladies boss always expected a tough game against St Nicholas and that’s just what he got. Robertson though praised his side’s character for “stepping up a gear” in the second half to claim a vital win.
Goals from Alice Smith, Meg Vella and Chyna Collings secured a valuable three points to take Town six points clear at the top of the table with one game remaining.

Smith’s long-range effort found it’s way into the net early on before St Nicholas levelled before the break.
Vella’s clinical finish from the edge of the box then restored Town’s lead before Collings sealed three valuable points heading in Michelle Rich’s corner at the back post.
Town Ladies now require just one point to clinch the league title with one game left against second bottom Shanklin next Sunday.
