Town Ladies continued their superb start to the Women’s Premier League South West Division One campaign thanks to a comprehensive win against Spitfires.

It was their seventh straight win of the season and extended their lead at the top of the table to nine points.

The prolific Beth Westlake was again in top form as she fired home a superb hat-trick.

And it was Westlake who got the ball running for Town Ladies as she slotted home early on.

Spitfires though struck back almost immediately after Katie Wadey latched onto a Town defensive error.

Swindon Town Ladies’ lead though was restored soon after when Sarah Uzzell scored from close range.

Abby Picton then curled in a superb strike before adding her second of the match to give Town a healthy advantage.

Westlake then added her second of the night before left back Alice Smith drove home the goal of the game just before the break

Lurking outside the penalty area, Smith needed no encouragement to strike the loose ball and duly powered it on the half volley into the back of the Spitfires net.

Meg Attenborough and Ellie Maynard added goals after break before Beth Turner’s superb long range effort gave Spitfires something to cheer.

Swindon Town Ladies’ top scorer Westlake then completed her hat-trick in the closing stages.

Westlake’s fine run into the Spitfires penalty area gave her the chance to shoot – her effort parried by the visiting goalkeeper into the net.

The result leaves Town Ladies sitting pretty at the top of the table on 21 points although chasing trio Keynsham, Chichester and Larkhall all have at least two games in hand.

And this Sunday Town Ladies make the trip to title rivals Chichester knowing another win would further enhance their position at the top of the league.
