Swindon started the match strongly but failed to turn their pressure into goals which allowed Newent to take the lead from their first meaningful attack on 13 minutes.
Hosts Swindon though drew level on 22 minutes when Chloe Lewis fired a reverse stick shot into the top corner.
Adriana Boullosa gave Swindon the lead when she tapped in from close range after Victoria Stokes rounded the keeper to set her up.
Rachel King then missed from close range and Swindon were left to rue that miss when Newent countered to level the scores.
And after a flurry of penalty corners went unrewarded for Swindon, the visitors once again broke through as they retook the lead.
Lewis almost snatched a draw for Swindon only for her strike to be saved on the line.
After the game, goalscorer Boullosa said: “Even though our coach believed we had a good game, I did not.
“We have to get better and this was a wake up call for all of the team.”
The Ladies’ second string side were on the winning side however, as they beat Bath Buccs 6-0 with goals from Angela Cook (3), Kim Taylor, Sue Roberts and Mary Goldsmith.
Swindon’s men also romped to victory as they beat Yate 9-2 with goals from Nathan Richards (2), Phil Scarisbrick (2) Tom Goldsmith (2), Thomas Lentschner (2) and Jim Towers.
The B string were also on the end of a winning scoreline as they beat North Wilts A 4-3.
