Lawn Netball Club had a successful start to 2016 with four of their five teams beginning the new year with victories.
In the Swindon & District Netball Association league, Lawn A, spurred on by player of the match Julie Harris, beat Corsham 41-32 in Division One.
The result leaves Lawn A in third place behind leaders Raychem A and second-placed Razzle Dazzle, who beat Moredon and Nationwide respectively.
In Division Two, leaders Abbey Meads A beat Raychem C 64-20 while second-placed Pinehurst B beat Fairford A 41-21.
Lawn’s C side also returned after the festive break with a win as they beat Nationwide C 33-21 in Division Three.
Faye Habgood was the player of the match for leaders Lawn while Sian Corbyn was player of the match for Nationwide.
Also in Division Three, Fairford B beat Moredon C 38-30 with Imogen Tasker handed the player of the match award.
Fairford’s quick defence was key as they kept Moredon’s attack under control meanwhile their shooters were in top form as they rarely missed a shot.
Moredon closed the deficit in the final quarter but a last burst of energy from Fairford was enough to give them an eight-goal win.
Sophie Brown was the star of the game for Lawn D as they beat Raychem E by 12 points, 35-23 in Division Four.
Division Four leaders Wootton Bassett A began the new year in winning fashion as they saw off Pinehurst D 42-20.
Lawn E however were seven points adrift of Croft E in Division Five in a match which was close until the final quarter. Cerys Heath was the player of the match for Lawn.
Raychem F had a huge win against Abbey Meads E as the Division Five leaders won 87-7.
There was a local derby in Regional League Two and it was Lawn who came out on top against fellow Swindon side Abbey Meads, 41-35.
In Regional League Three, Nationwide stormed to a 52-40 success against Poole B, avenging their defeat in the reverse fixtures earlier in the season.
Nationwide began the game well as they played some of their best netball of the season.
Excellent shooting from Kate Norton-Hewins and Faye Green gave them an 18-7 lead at the end of the first quarter.
A tactical change saw Poole reduce the deficit in the second period but good defending by Hayley Neate and Rachel Kelly ensured Nationwide had a 30-19 lead at half-time.
Good court play from Lisa Kitchin, Kathryn Sell and Angela Tapper saw Nationwide edge further in front, 42-29, going into the final quarter.
And despite Poole piling on the pressure in the last session, Nationwide held on to claim a 52-40 victory.
