Cox was crowned the new WBO European super middleweight champion tonight, after blasting Blas Miguel Martinez away in just two minutes and 14 seconds.
The undefeated 28-year-old secured his 19th career win in fantastic style, eventually stopping Martinez, who weighed in eight pounds over the super middleweight limit, with a vicious right to the body.
Cox made a great start to the fight, shaking Martinez early in the first round with a vicious straight left as he immediately took the fight to his rival.
But it was Cox’s fine work to the body which caused most of the damage to Martinez and when the Swindon southpaw landed a huge right to the body, his rival sunk to the canvas.
Although Martinez appeared ready to fight on after beating the count, his corner decided enough was enough and threw the towel in.
Cox will now set his sights at a world title shot, potentially against interim WBA world title champion Dmitry Chudinov, although it is likely his next outing will be a defence of his newly acquired European strap in September time.
