Swindon Town Ladies suffered a 4-0 defeat at Charlton Athletic in their first Women’s Premier League Southern Division match of the season.

Steve Robertson’s side started well however and almost took the lead when Ellie Maynard fired over the bar from Chyna Collings’ header on nine minutes.

Charlton though took the lead on 11 minutes and then scored a second just six minutes later.

Georgia Walters and Maynard again, both forced good saves from the Charlton goalkeeper while Town stopper Robyn Levett played her part with several good saves.

Trailling 2-0 at the break, Town faced more pressure from Charlton in the second half and the hosts made it 3-0 on 53 minutes.

Maynard and Collings then threatened to pull a goal back for Town but both fired wide of the Charlton net.

Charlton then wrapped up victory with a fourth goal on 68 minutes.

Town will look to bounce back when they visit Tottenham Hotspur next Sunday.
