Abbey Meads B secured a two-point win against Nationwide C in Division Three of the Swindon & District Netball League.

Nationwide started this match stronger and led the first quarter by two goals.

Abbey Meads though found their form in front of the net with some great set-up play by Maria Hawkins at centre and Cayn Roberts at wing attack.

In defence, Nationwide’s Jo Hill and Louise Giles performed superbly and were supported well by wing defence Kalli Kaur.

A tense final quarter followed with both teams going for victory but it was Abbey Meads who held their nerve to win 26-24.

Players of the match were Kalli Kaur and Cayn Roberts.

In the same Division, Delta Reds’ newly-formed B team had their first match against an experienced Raychem D.

Lots of mistakes from Delta in the first quarter saw Raychem take the lead, 16-5.

Delta got into the swing of things in the second quarter and came out more confidently, scoring three goals on the bounce.

A change in pace from Delta had Raychem on the back foot and some flying interceptions from Karen Ridley and Shannon Hewes, saw Delta win the third quarter 9-6, to pull the game back to 32-21 in Raychem’s favour.

The youngsters in the Raychem team kept the pace of play high with some nifty footwork and overhead passes into the D which were tough to mark.

Both teams traded goals for most of the final quarter as Raychem finished 44-30 winners.

Delta’s player of the match was Sharon Bassindale.

Delta’s C team played Coleview in Division Four and despite some really positive play found themselves down 11 goals by the end of the third quarter.

Tiredness then got the better of Delta in the final quarter as they lost 44-24 with Ann Forrester awarded player of the match.

Pinehurst B’s first game of the season in Division One was a close one, finishing with a 33-30 victory over Abbey Meads A.

Pinehurst took an early lead in the first quarter only for Abbey Meads to hit back to lead at half-time.

After a few changes to the squad, Pinehurst were able to pull ahead and secure the win with debutant Rosie Rusga earning the player of the match award.

In the same division, Pinehurst A took a nice 52-27 win against Raychem B.

Pinehurst led 27-10 after two quarters and continued their form throughout the rest of the match to clinch a fine win.

Players of the match went to Pinehurst’s goal attack Taylor Goodright.

Also in Division One Burmah A expected a hard game against Moredon A and that’s exactly what they got.

Burmah, missing their usual goal shooter, had 16-year-old Zoe from the B team stepping in to deputise.

After making a pacey start, Burmah led 23-20 at half-time before closing the game out to win by 49-46.

Recently promoted Purton A got off to a great start for their first match in Division Three beating Moredon B.

Purton finished the first quarter five goals ahead and held that lead at half-time.

In the third quarter though Purton turned up the heat to lead 33-16 before finishing the match 40-20.

Della Hunt was named Purton’s player of the match.

In Abbey Mead C’s first game of the season, they took on Burmah C in Division Five.

And despite going down 27-10, there were lots of positives for Abbey Meads with all seven players Abi Cook, Jessie Brown, Hayley Pinchin, Kavee Pack, Maulie Chew (player of the match), Kimberley Arthur and Rosa Humphreys performing well.
