Supermarine Ladies’ fine start to the new year continued against Bath on Sunday as they clinched a fifth straight win in South West Two.
Having toppled leaders Trojans the previous weekend, Supermarine were in confident mood heading into the trip to Bath.
Supermarine made a promising start to the match as they turned Bath over quickly to hold possession.
Bath’s strong defence though held the Supermarine attack back despite some impressive mauls from the visitors.
Supermarine dominated the first half but found themselves behind at the break following a Bath turnover which led to an unconverted try on 35 minutes.
The visitors fought back in the second half though and on 50 minutes took the lead after a powerful drive from the pack allowed fly-half Claire Wilson to score under the posts.
Nat Williams converted Wilson’s try to put Supermarine 7-5 in front.
Supermarine’s forwards were forceful in the scrum and another strong drive on the hour saw the visitors extend their advantage – Aileen Douglas crossing the Bath whitewash for her side’s second try of the game.
With a full try’s score between them and victory in their sights, Supermarine gave their all in the final 20 minutes of the match to hang on for another hard-fought victory.
Forward of the match went to club president and hooker Pixie Bickell for some exceptional carries and back of the match to winger Jenny Benton.
The Ladies host Plymouth Albion next week at Supermarine RFC.
