Farnan hails “exceptional” Morgan performance

Kelly Morgan’s trainer Rich Farnan could not be prouder of his boxer after winning the WBC Silver middleweight title in just four fights.

While Morgan was critical of her performance, Farnan refused to fault what he described as an “exceptional” display against durable German Lisa Cielas.

Farnan admitted the fight turned out to be a tougher affair then he had anticipated although he felt Morgan also did more than enough to win every round of the eight-round contest.

The ringside judges awarded Morgan a unanimous decision and rather than focus on her next move – a potential full world title shot – Farnan said it’s time for his boxer to enjoy her moment.

Also fighting on the undercard to Morgan’s title fight on Friday night at Grange Leisure Centre was Swindon’s Ryan Martin, who completed a shut-out success against Arvydas Trizno over six rounds.

Swindon cruiserweight Luke Watkins also claimed victory as he climbed off the canvas in round two to stop determined Reinis Porozovs in the fifth round.

Friday’s show was the first professional bill put together by new Swindon promoters Neilson Boxing.
