Three of the most decorated boxers from Walcot Amateur Boxing Club will be handing out the trophies at their home show on Friday night, writes Dave Veysey.

Jamie Cox, Ryan Martin and Danny Bharj, all now successful professional boxers, will attend Walcot’s annual show at Supermarine Sports and Social Club.

Their attendance should give Walcot’s present young stars further incentive to shine on the night.

Cox is the most decorated boxer in Walcot ABC’s history having won the 2006 Commonwealth Games gold medal, the 2005 Senior ABA title and a host of England vests.

Martin and Bharj meanwhile both represented England at junior level along with earning numerous titles in Walcot colours.

Head coach Harry Scott is delighted to welcome back his star trio, saying: “It is great news that these three former Walcot boxers are returning for our show.

“I have followed their professional career with interest, and I’m very happy that all are doing well.

“Let’s hope we have some future stars in tonight’s show.”

Topping the bill at Walcot’s show is 24-year-old Said Salem, a boxer who has in the past beaten now pro Garvey Kelly when he was an amateur at Paddy Fitzpatrick’s Gym.

Salem has had a ring absence of 18 months and is looking to get his career back on track on Friday night.

Tickets are still available on the night and doors open at 7pm with the first bell at 7.45pm.
