Swindon Supermarine defender Luke Matthews will bid a fond farewell to the club this week when he jets off to America after landing a scholarship.

Matthews, who signed for Supermarine following his release from Swindon Town, will now be joining Elon University in the NCAA Division One.

While the youngster is relishing the chance to make an impression in the United States with his new club, he admitted he will miss everyone at the Webbswood Stadium.

He described the fans at the club as “unbelievable” and said scoring a late winner in a 3-2 away win away at Paulton in the FA Trophy as the highlight of his time at Supermarine.

Matthews will now spend the next four years at Elon University where he hopes he will impress enough to be drafted into the MLS or earn a return to a professional club in this country.
