Swindon boxer Kelly Morgan is ready to “go to war” to win the WBC silver middleweight title next month.
Morgan will bid to win the WBC silver strap against Ghanaian Number One Gifty Amanua Ankrah on March 12th at Swindon’s Oasis Leisure Centre.
Ankrah, who is ranked 10th by the WBC at super middleweight, will have to drop down to the 160lb middleweight limit for the fight.
Morgan expects the more experienced Ankrah to “come to fight” but admitted she is desperate for the WBC silver strap to remain in Swindon.
“I am thrilled to have an opponent confirmed in Ghanaian Number One Gifty Amanua Ankrah,” Morgan told Your Sport Swindon.
“She has a mixed record but has been up against some top opponents and I am certain she will come to fight.
“So on March 12th at the Oasis we’ll go to war and see who goes home with that green and silver belt wrapped around their waist.
“It’s experience versus grit once again and I want that belt to stay right here in Swindon.”
Ankrah comes to the ring having fought nine times, winning four of those contests, and also taking on Nikki Addler for the WIBA world super middleweight title.
Meanwhile Morgan has fought just three times since turning professional with her last two contests against Melinda Lazar and Szilvia Szabados producing thrilling toe-to-toe encounters.
While Morgan headlines the March 12th show, fellow Swindon boxer Luke Watkins will act as chief support in a cruiserweight contest.
Swindon’s Ryan Martin and Danny Bharj will also be in action while the Paddy Fitzpatrick trained Sam Smith is also on the bill.
