Delta Reds A celebrated a first win in two seasons against Moredon A in the Swindon & District Netball Association League last weekend.
Managing to stay ahead in each quarter of this close-fought Division One match, Delta Reds eventually walked away with a 59-54 success.
Delta Reds’ win was aided by some great defence from Genevieve Sweeney, Nikki Fisher and Louise O’Leary in the shooting circle which made it difficult for Moredon to use the long ball.
At the other end there were some great feeds from player of the match Flo Lester and the two shoots, Jess Sowden and Millie Pedder scoring some impressive baskets.
Having lost their earlier meeting against Raychem D, Delta Reds B proved a force to be reckoned with in Division Three.
Delta came out very determined, picking up lots of loose balls, and remaining level headed throughout.
Sarah Batholomew, who played goal keeper and goal shooter for Delta Reds B, was awarded player of the match.
Denise Greenberg and Shannon Hewes both played up from the C team as Delta Reds secured a 49-34 win.
It was an inter-club battle for Division One league leaders Raychem A who took on Raychem B.
Raychem B came out strong in the first quarter and managed to end the session in the lead.
The second quarter however, proved to be a turning point for Raychem A as they settled into their rhythm to take the lead and secured a 67-42 win.
Raychem’s other sides had a less successful week, unfortunately losing all their other games.
Having previously lost by 22 goals, it was a different story this time around for Nationwide B against Raychem C.
Leading by 10 goals at half-time, Nationwide managed to maintain their form and win the game 49-25.
Effie Bond was awarded player of the match for Nationwide.
Nationwide C lost by two goals against Croft C in their previous Division Three match, and were determined to get a different result this time.
Both defences were on form in this match with just four goals scored in the third quarter.
Nationwide C however led the game throughout and secured a 16-13 win despite Croft C’s strong performance.
Lawn A fought a close battle with Nationwide A in Division One, as the match was decided by a single point.
Nationwide took the lead in the first half before Lawn bounced back to trail by just one point at the end of the third quarter.
A thrilling final quarter saw Lawn sneak victory 38-37 with goal attack Macy Dawson receiving the player of the match award.
Nationwide’s regional team took on local rivals Devizes having lost their home match to them by one goal just before Christmas.
Devizes were first off the mark and took the lead, managing to hold onto a one goal lead up until half time.
Changes to the Nationwide line up meant they were able to take the lead from the third quarter and finished up 56-46 winners.
Pinehurst continued their promising start to the year as they beat local rivals Abbey Meads 54-31. Ellie Swatridge was named player of the match.
Back in Division One of the Swindon & District Netball Association League, Pinehurst A kept an experienced Razzle Dazzle side under pressure throughout the game, only losing by six goals, 45-39.
In Division Two, another inter-club battle took place between Pinehurst’s B and C teams, with the B team winning 64-36.
Player of the match was awarded to Hayley Jefferies, who stood out at wing defence for the B team and goal keeper Rebecca Pinnock for the C team.
Pinehurst’s D team, who lost by three goals the last time they faced Lawn D, managed to win by four goals, 33-29.
In the Swindon Junior League, Pinehurst under 12’s took to the court against Fairford in a well contested game, winning 11-7 with player of the matches going to both side’s goal defences, Adele (Pinehurst) and Maudie (Fairford).
Pinehurst’s under 13’s however, were not as fortunate, losing to league leaders Raychem A.
Lawn’s under 16 regional squad travelled to Bournemouth and led by four goals at the end of the first quarter.
The second quarter saw Bournemouth step up a gear and, with errors from Lawn, the hosts were winning at half time.
Lawn though played some strong and fluid netball to reclaim the lead and win the match 32-23. The Lawn under 16 squad are now placed in third in the league.
